Golden Dawn honours the anniversary of Autonomy in Northern Epirus

Golden Dawn paid respect to the anniversary of Autonomy in Northern Epirus. MEPs Epitideios & Kapelonis attended the event, in the company of other Golden Dawn members. From the early morning, our comrades attended the Church of Saint George Karytsi, in praise of the efforts of Hellenic heroes who fought in the Northern Epirus struggle. Together, they followed the path to the Tomb of the Unknown Solider, where MEP Giorgos Epitideios laid a wreath in honour of those who had fallen.

Balkan History

A common theme in the history of the Balkans, is the use of proxy states to secure the interests of foreign imperialists. We can see this today with the creation of the 'state' of modern Kosovo, which serves as a base for NATO, should the Serbs of other Christians in the Balkans decide to oppose the domination of the globalists. Prior to WW1, and before the rise of the Americans, Albania was the pawn state of the imperialists to assert their power in the region, usually for added control of the Eastern Mediterranean, or to counter Russian influence.

Albanians, who had no recorded history in Europe prior to 900 years ago, appeared in the region with dubious origins during the late Byzantine period. Probably little more than nomads who passed through the region at the time, the Albanians put up a short lived resistance to the Turks, only to convert to Islam and serve as minions to the Ottomans, executing their order to oppress the indigenous Christian subjects. At the beginning of the 20th century, the region was populated by Greeks, Vlachs, Slavs, Gypsies and Albanians, with the modern state carved out by the Western powers and ceded to the latter. The bastard state of Albania began a policy of supressing indigenous non-Albanian minorities, a practice still seen today.

Northern Epirus

Northern Epirus lies at the south of Albania, on the boarder of Greece. It is a land that has been part of the Hellenic world for thousands of years, & historically maintained a Greek majority. As Ottoman control in South Eastern Europe began to decline, the Greek vision of the ‘Megali Idea’ sought to reunite all Hellenic lands with the mother country. On the other hand, the Western powers had other ideas, and chose instead to have Northern Epirus serve as the southern front of the Albanian state.

Naturally, with its distinctively Greek population, Northern Epirus was secured by the Greek army in the first Balkan War of 1913. At this point, the Western powers demanded the Greek army fall back to the newly created boarder at Southern Epirus (today part of modern Greece). In return, the Western powers recognised the Independent state of Northern Epirus, with a view to have it incorporated into Greece should they enter the war on behalf of the allies.

As Greece continued its war against the Turks after WW1, in order to liberate the Indigenous Hellenes of Asia Minor, the Western powers, and the newly created Soviet state, conspired to pull all support for the Greeks, should they upset the balance of power in the Balkans following their surprising success against the Turks. When the powers betrayed Greece, and began supporting Turkey, Greece was inevitably defeated, and the State of Northern Epirus was dissolved, while being incorporated into the Albanian state.

After the 1920s, Albania continued to serve as a pawn for Western powers. Albania was annexed by the Italians prior to WW2, and used as a base in Mussolini’s invasion of Greece. By the communist period, the Vlachs, who had a notable presence in the country, had been significantly reduced by the Albanian state, which now turned its focus towards denying the Greek minority in the South of its basic historical & cultural rights.

Northern Epirus has and always will be Greek, and the Golden Dawn is the only political party which is prepared to sacrifice for the liberation of Northern Epirus.
